The StarOffice Calc
application offers
more functions than a standard spreadsheet program, enabling
you to analyze figures, create lists, and handle Euro conversions
with ease and accuracy. A scenario manager helps analyze and
filter your data according to various factors, and several advanced
layout functions simplify the task of presenting your data.
For the finishing touch, create impressive 3-D charts with only
a few mouse clicks. In the 5.2 release, you'll find major improvements
that make the StarOffice Calc application even easier to use,
with improved import and export filters for Microsoft Excel
97/2000, and a number of new templates and sample files that
give you results you can rely on. When it comes to turning data
into information, you can count on StarOffice Calc software
to get the job done. |
New and
enhanced features include:
- Improved IntuitiveUse
technology for spreadsheet tasks: Delivers the tools you need
when you need them. StarOffice Calc 5.2 software now features
the StarOffice IntuitiveUse technology, which offers the tools
and functions necessary for the current task, while disabling
all operations not necessary to the actual selection. For example,
a selected graphic will not allow cell operations. Instead, menus
and toolbars offer only those commands that are pertinent for
graphic editing. Likewise, you will never again search for tools
when editing the contents of cells or working with formulas, DataPilot
tables, Detective functions, charts, text, graphics, and OLE objects.
- Enhanced DataPilot:
Now it is easier to analyze and evaluate existing spreadsheet
data. This feature gives you the option of quickly selecting a
data source as well as enhanced layout options. When you start
the new DataPilot (Data > DataPilot > Start), you'll see a dialog
box that enables you to select a data source, including these
options:
* Current selection: Create a table using the current selection
in the document. When you press OK, you'll see the familiar DataPilot,
enabling you to define the layout and presentation of the DataPilot's
results
* Data source registered in StarOffice: This option takes
data from an existing database table or a query. When you press
OK, the program offers all databases that already have been edited
with StarOffice
* External source/interface: Connect to an external OLAP
server. The results are displayed in the DataPilot table and are
created by scanning the external source. Press OK to access and
define the OLAP data source
|
If your DataPilot
tables include
involved elements,
you may double-click on the name of an element to fade the involved
elements in and out. For example, if the DataPilot table presents
data with the row elements, "class of goods" and "vendor," where
different vendors are possible for one class of goods, a double-click
on a certain class would fade out the corresponding vendors.
Double-click again, and they return to view. |
- NEW
templates and sample files: Get a jump start on your tasks
with these templates and sample files:
* Universal Measurement Converter (Conversion Table.sdc):
This sample file enables you to convert measures and weights from
the metric system to U.S. or British measures, and vice versa.
Extra options include conversion options for temperature and gasoline
consumption
* StarOffice Stocks Manager template: Located in the Financial
Documents templates folder (File > New > From Template), this
feature enables you to edit bonus shares with a buying price of
zero. Furthermore, you can specify a total loss (selling value
of zero) as well as a stock split
* Currency Converter (CurrencyConverter.sdc): This updated
sample file includes new currencies and has been split into two
worksheets: one for manual data entry and one that links to Internet
pages listing up-to-date exchange rates. Each time you open the
document, you are given the option to update the Internet rates
All templates and sample
files are located in the Templates folder and Samples > Spreadsheets
folder, respectively.
- NEW
Euro Converter AutoPilot: Convert currency amounts of your
StarCalc documents to Euro currency. To start the conversion process,
select File > AutoPilot > Euro Converter, then select the currency
you want to convert from the Currencies drop-down list box. You
have the option to convert currency amounts in a specified file
or all files stored in a specified directory (including subfolders).
You may also select a target directory for the results of the
conversion. Note that the conversion process is limited to the
currencies of European countries participating in the Monetary
Union.
- NEW
Choose Themes button on the Main toolbar: A new feature
that provides one-click access to a series of design themes. Simply
select the desired theme from the Theme Selection dialog box;
with each selection, StarOffice Calc offers you a preview of the
selected theme in real time. You may also modify each design and
store the templates in the Office52/share/template/English/wizard/styles
directory.
- Improved import
and export filters for MS Excel 97/2000 documents: Save complex
spreadsheets that contain cell notes, comments, graphics, and
OLE objects as Microsoft Excel 97/2000-compatible files. StarOffice
Calc 5.2 software enables you to export more statistical functions
to Microsoft Excel 97/2000, including AVERAGEA, MAXA, MINA, STDEVA,
STDEVPA, VARA, and VARPA. Major improvements for the Microsoft
Excel 97/2000 import and export filters include:
